Connecting to Sonos
Connecting Background Sounds to your Sonos system needs to be done outside of the Sonos App. Please see below the available connection methods depending on the Sonos System you have.

How to Connect to a Sonos Speaker via Bluetooth (iOS, Android, Desktop)
Only the below Sonos Speakers support Bluetooth connection:
- Sonos Move (Gen 1 & Move 2)
- Sonos Roam (Gen 1 & Roam 2)
- Sonos Roam SL
- Sonos Era 100
- Sonos Era 300
Apple iOS (iPhone/iPad) & Android Devices
Step 1: Put the Sonos Speaker in Bluetooth Pairing Mode
- Press and hold the Bluetooth button (on the back) until the LED blinks blue.
Step 2: Enable Bluetooth on Your Device
Apple iOS (iPhone/iPad) Devices
- Open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
Android Devices
- Open Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
Step 3: Pair Your Device
- In the Bluetooth settings, look for your Sonos speaker in the list of available devices.
- Tap the speaker name to connect.
- The LED on the Sonos speaker will turn solid blue when connected.
Step 4: Play Audio
- Once connected, any audio played on your phone or tablet (music, videos, apps) will stream to the Sonos speaker via Bluetooth.
Desktop (Windows & Mac)
Step 1: Put the Sonos Speaker in Bluetooth Pairing Mode
Press and hold the Bluetooth button until the LED blinks blue.
Step 2: Enable Bluetooth on Your Computer
Windows
- Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Click Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
- Select your Sonos speaker from the list.
Mac
- Click the Apple menu > System Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Select your Sonos speaker and click Connect.
Step 3: Play Audio
Set the Sonos speaker as the default audio output in your system sound settings.
How to Connect an iPhone or iPad to Sonos via AirPlay 2
Only the below Sonos Speakers Support Airplay2

Additional Tips
π Sonos speaker and iPhone/iPad must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
π Apple iPhone/iPad must run iOS 14.1 or later.
Using Control Center
- Turn on your Sonos speaker and ensure it’s connected to Wi-Fi.
- Open Control Center:
- On iPhone/iPad with Face ID: Swipe down from the top-right corner.
- On iPhone/iPad with a Home button: Swipe up from the bottom.
- Tap the AirPlay (π) icon in the media playback section.
- Select your Sonos speaker from the list.
- Play any audio from your iPhone/iPad, and it will stream to the Sonos speaker.
Method 3: Multi-Room Streaming (Play to Multiple Sonos Speakers)
- In the AirPlay menu, tap additional speakers to create a multi-room setup.
- Audio will now play on all selected speakers in sync.

Google Nest and Google Home speakers support Bluetooth, allowing you to play audio from your phone, tablet, or computer wirelessly.
How to Connect to a Google Speaker via Bluetooth (iOS, Android, Desktop)
Step 1: Enable Bluetooth Pairing on Your Google Speaker
There are two ways to do this:
Method 1: Using Voice Command
Say: “Hey Google, Bluetooth pairing”. The speaker will enter pairing mode, and Google Assistant will confirm.
Method 2: Using the Google Home App
- Open the Google Home app on your phone/tablet.
- Tap on your Google speaker.
- Tap the Settings (βοΈ) icon in the top-right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Paired Bluetooth Devices > Enable Pairing Mode.
Step 2: Pair Your Device via Bluetooth
iPhone / iPad (iOS)
- Open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Look for your Google speaker under βOther Devices.β
- Tap it to pair and connect.
Android
- Open Settings > Connected Devices > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Tap Pair new device and select your Google speaker.
Windows PC
- Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Click Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
- Select your Google speaker from the list.
Mac
- Click the Apple menu () > System Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Select your Google speaker and click Connect.
Step 3: Play Audio
- Once paired, any audio played on your device will stream to the Google speaker via Bluetooth.
- You can play music, videos, podcasts, and even phone calls.
Additional Tips
π Google Nest & Home speakers do not support multiple Bluetooth connections at the same time. Only one device can be connected at a time.
π If your Google speaker doesnβt appear in Bluetooth settings, restart it by unplugging it for 10 seconds and trying again.
π Unlike AirPlay, Bluetooth does not support multi-room audio syncing with Google Nest speakers.

Connecting to an Amazon Speaker

Amazon Echo and Alexa-enabled speakers support Bluetooth streaming but do not natively support AirPlay.
*Only certain Alexa speakers have an AUX/Line-In port that allows you to connect external devices using a 3.5mm audio cable.
Connecting to an Alexa Speaker via Bluetooth (iOS, Android, Desktop)
Step 1: Put the Alexa Speaker in Pairing Mode
Use one of these methods:
Method 1: Using a Voice Command
Say: “Alexa, pair” or “Alexa, Bluetooth pairing” Alexa will confirm: “Searchingβ¦ now connected to [device name]”
Method 2: Using the Alexa App
- Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone/tablet.
- Tap Devices (bottom-right).
- Select Echo & Alexa > Choose your Alexa speaker.
- Tap Bluetooth Devices > Pair a New Device.
Step 2: Connect your device
iPhone / iPad (iOS)
- Open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Find your Alexa speaker in the device list and tap to pair.
Android
- Open Settings > Connected Devices > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Tap Pair new device and select your Alexa speaker.
Windows PC
- Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Click Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
- Select your Alexa speaker from the list.
Mac
- Click the Apple menu () > System Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth ON.
- Select your Alexa speaker and click Connect.
Step 3: Play Audio
Once paired, any audio played on your device will stream to the Alexa speaker via Bluetooth.
Additional Tips
π If your Alexa speaker doesnβt show up, restart Alexa and your device, then try pairing again.
π Bluetooth does not support multi-room audio with Alexa. Use Alexa Multi-Room Music instead.
Connect to an Amazon Speaker via AUX/Line-In
Alexa Speakers that support AUX/Line-In
- Echo Studio (3.5mm / mini-optical input)
- Echo (2nd & 3rd Gen) (3.5mm AUX input)
- Echo Plus (2nd Gen) (3.5mm AUX input)
π There is NO AUX input on Echo Dot (all versions)
How to Connect via AUX/Line-In (iOS, Android, Desktop)
- Get a 3.5mm AUX cable (also called a stereo or headphone cable).
- Plug one end into your Alexa speakerβs AUX/Line-In port.
- Plug the other end into your deviceβs headphone or audio output port.
- iPhone/iPad users (without a headphone jack) will need a Lightning-to-3.5mm adapter.
- Mac, Windows, and Android devices usually have a built-in headphone jack.
- Play audio on your device, and it should now play through the Alexa speaker.
Switching Alexa to AUX Mode (If Needed)
Most Echo speakers automatically detect an AUX connection. However, if the sound isnβt playing:
Say “Alexa, switch to Line-In” If the speaker supports it, the input will be switched to AUX.
